18 Month Celebration

 

18 MONTH CELEBRATION 

There is a lot of change in the air, which comes with the changing of seasons. For Barbara Smith, this also means a change in title. For the past 18 months, Barbara has been a participant at Circle of Hope, where she has been known as a Circle Leader. A Circle Leader is someone who is leading the charge to create change in her life and hope for her future. As she completes this 18-month journey, she will no longer be a Circle Leader in the Tuesday night program, but will be known as a Community Leader!

She has forged her way through the budgeting class alongside peers and two dedicated Allies- James Wenger and Marlene Faul. Barbara has been able to create a budget (and mostly stuck with it), recognizing each day as a new opportunity to try again. She has done this with humor and grace, expressing frustration at setbacks and joy with the accomplishments. Before Barbara even celebrated her accomplishment, she was already asking how she could pass the blessing, love and friendship on to another Circle Leader!

Two Big-Hearted Women Join Peace Connection's Board

There is no better way to start off the year than bringing two big-hearted women onto the board of directors. That is what Peace Connections has done in inviting Priscilla Griffith and Jenna Ratzlaff to be part of the team. “I am excited to be part of something in which I can give back to a community that has given so much to me,” said Priscilla Griffith, a graduate of the Circle of Hope program and current owner of a Habitat for Humanity home in Newton. Griffith is a 45-year-old musician and mother to three children and works in the international shipping department at the Bradbury Company in Moundridge, Kansas. Jenna Ratzlaff is a 27-year-old Director of Social Services at Kansas Christian Home in Newton. Creating Possible Futures Dreams, Goals, and Aspirations for Harvey County      Harvey County Circle of Hope is a relationship-based poverty-reduction program geared toward individuals working to escape poverty. While the main focus is financial management and goal setting, many conversations steer toward collective resources and information. This focus shifts the narrative away from individual blame or failure and toward a place where people from various backgrounds can work together to solve the systemic barriers that keep families in poverty.
